Texas Insurance Code 28 TAC 21.1006 sets the framework carriers use to decide whether your leak qualifies as a covered loss tied to a wider storm event, and whether a partial repair turns into a full replacement claim. In practical terms, carriers want documentation that 25 percent or more of the total roof area shows storm-related damage before they’ll write a full replacement check. Below that threshold they pay for the repair scope only. The problem is most homeowners and most roofers never document the rest of the slope, so a leak that ties to a hail or wind event gets paid as a $400 boot repair when the real damage qualifies for a full carrier-funded replacement. We map every slope, count bruises per test square, photograph soft metals (vents, gutters, AC fins) for collateral hail evidence, and write the report in the language adjusters actually score against the 25 percent threshold. If the damage genuinely crosses the line, our documentation is what gets it across. If it doesn’t, we tell you straight, and we fix the leak as a single-source repair without dragging your carrier into it. Either way you see the photos, the slope map, and the math before anything gets filed.

DFW averages 38 inches of rain per year, and April through June is peak hail season with the heaviest cells running US-75 from McKinney south through Plano and Frisco. The storm dates Texas carriers honor on current open claims are May 28 2023, April 9 2024, May 23 2024, and June 17 2024. If your leak started after one of those events and you haven’t filed yet, the statute of limitations and your carrier’s reporting window are both still in play in most cases, but they don’t stay open forever.
